The Discovery Sport 2021 Model Year sees a number of enhancements to the engine range, offering improvements in power, refinement and efficiency.
Exterior changes to the Discovery Sport include; Black Pack option is now standard on R-Dynamic variants. This consists of black DISCOVERY lettering on bonnet and tailgate, black grille, black mirror caps, black number plate plinth, black front and rear tow eye covers. All derivative and engine badges have been removed with the exception of P290 and P300e. There has been a new introduction of grey contrast roof option and a new introduction of a new standard wheel on R-Dynamic SE variants, the 20” Style 5076, 5 split-spoke in satin dark grey finish.
As happens every year, Land Rover’s exterior paint options have been altered slightly. The Fuji White Solid Paint which comes as standard on the Discovery Sport. Whilst Metallic Paint (optional) are now available in Santorini Black, Eiger Grey, Hakuba Silver (replaces Indus Silver), Yulong White Firenze Red, Byron Blue and Portofino Blue. And finally, Premium Metallic Paint (optional) include Carpathian Grey, Silicon Silver or Namib Orange.
Next-generation of Ingenium D4 engines, offered in D165 (FWD manual and AWD auto) and D200 AWD auto outputs, these drivetrains offer a reduction to CO2 output which means a reduction in first year VED, as well as improved fuel economy, power and refinement. The P290 Black powertrain has been reintroduced at 21MY for customers looking for the most dynamic drive in the Discovery Sport range. Whilst the efficient P300e PHEV powertrain introduced at 20.5MY continues for 21MY. This powertrain offers significant benefits in terms of fuel economy and CO2 emissions.
An updated, efficient next-generation four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engines are now available, featuring Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology. Using a belt-driven starter motor and battery pack, vehicles fitted with MHEV technology harvest energy normally lost under deceleration, feeding back to the vehicle’s 48-volt battery. The result is a smoother stop-start operation and optimised fuel economy – giving customers a taste of the benefits of an electrified vehicle without needing to plug in and charge. Available in 165PS and 200PS outputs, these are more powerful and efficient than the engines they replace, with CO2 from 165g/km and fuel economy of up to 44.7mpg (from 6.3l/100km). For 21MY Rear Collision Monitor is now available for the first time on Discovery Sport. This feature uses sensors on the rear corner of the vehicle to identify potential collision risks from the rear of the vehicle, providing a warning to the oncoming vehicle by flashing hazard lights rapidly whilst simultaneously preparing the cabin for collision. There are also a number of enhancements to the interior of 21MY Discovery Sport. The New Shadow Aluminium trim finisher is standard on all R-Dynamic variants. The Titanium Mesh Finisher available at 20MY is still available as an option. All powered seat options will now feature upgraded chrome finish controls. Front seat back board map pocket has been upgraded from hard back board to an envelope trimmed soft map pocket to improve usability. And the USB sockets have been upgraded from USB type A to USB type C, to improve charging performance.
The digital experience has been transformed inside the Discovery Sport with the introduction of Land Rover’s state-of-the-art Pivi infotainment. The system is ready to go as soon as it’s switched on – a separate data plan and battery mean there’s no delay. Software updates are available over-the-air via the vehicle’s embedded data connection at no cost and can even be scheduled at a time to suit. This ensures customers always have the latest maps, apps and vehicle features without having to visit a retailer. The system is enabled by a new Electrical Vehicle Architecture and is available as either standard Pivi, or the more advanced Pivi Pro with built-in navigation, from S-specification.
Streaming music and media has never been simpler, with Spotify integrated directly within the infotainment menu for the first time and Bluetooth connectivity for two phones at once. There’s also wireless device charging with signal-boosting option. The new second-generation Activity Key is also available, allowing customers to unlock any door, lock or even start the vehicle, just by being nearby. Water-resistant, and shock-proof, this wearable wrist device now incorporates an LCD watch.
3D Surround Camera is now standard across the Discovery Sport range. This system provides a 3D, 360° view around the vehicle and is able to display several views simultaneously on the touchscreen when manoeuvring.
Customers can now even check the quality of the air in the cabin via the touchscreen by activating the smart all-new Cabin Air Filtration system which filters out harmful fine particulate matter often found in cities and high-traffic areas. The all-new system – introduced in addition to the existing Cabin Air Ionisation feature – filters out fine particulate matter, allergens, pollen and even strong smells. The system can filter ultrafine particulates (up to and even below PM2.5). Occupants simply select 'Purify' mode to activate the system, which filters and continually monitors the air inside the cabin relative to the air outside. The touchscreen offers reassurance that the air within is cleaner than the air outside.
